PETALING JAYA, 23rd October 2018 – Specialjobs.com.my, a free job portal targeting the Differently Abled was launched today. Fully funded by Agensi Pekerjaan Jobsbac Sdn Bhd – a wholly owned subsidiary of BAC Education Group and supported by the Ministry of Human Resources Malaysia, the online job portal aims to connect employers with jobseekers living with disabilities at no cost.
At the launch event hosted by the Group, over 100 guests from government agencies, corporations, academia, multilateral agencies and non-profit organisations within the Klang Valley attended the event. The guest of honour YB M. Kulasegaran, Minister of Human Resources, Malaysia, officially launched the event. Also present at the launch was Senator Bathmavathi Krishnan, special needs advocate of Dewan Negara Malaysia.
In his welcome address, Mr. Raja Singham, Founder of Jobsbac and Managing Director of BAC Education Group, said “With the support of the Malaysian Ministry of Human Resources, we are elated to offer Specialjobs.com.my as an accessible technological tool that strives to hire and create a culture that is inclusive to those who are differently abled – in line with our continuous efforts to transform lives through education. Building an inclusive culture that truly represents BAC plays an important role in ensuring success in everything that we do. We know that diversity and inclusivity fosters high-performance teams that can better support our stakeholders.”
Speaking on the benefits experienced by employers who have hired people living with disabilities, YB Kulasegaran commented, “these employers have found that employees with disabilities can be loyal, successful and help them make more money”.
Brian Lariche, Head of Community Development at Make It Right Movement (MIRM), the CSR arm for BAC Education Group shares, “With the right support and patience, this section of the community can be included in our society and lend to the diversity that is Malaysia”. He added, “Pre-conceived notions that a person with disability would not be able to withstand the pressure of a job, is expensive to hire and will affect productivity needs to be addressed with the help of this portal and its supporting services.”
A representative from Graduan Bersatu Sdn Bhd, a prospective employer, who attended the launch event, remarked, “this is a good platform for both employer and special needs employees to achieve success together. Employers may enhance their services with the talents of people with special needs and promote equality without any discrimination”.
Rachel Siew, a differently abled individual, Community Advocate of MIRM and author, commented, “Specialjobs.com.my is a prime example of the sort of public-private partnership that will provide opportunities for the differently abled community to enter the workforce and by doing so will indirectly promote inclusivity. On behalf of my fellow comrades, we would like to thank BAC for providing us this platform to contribute back to society!”
