The First BAC Quickfire Mooting 2025: A Thrilling Display of Advocacy Skills

The courtroom came alive as aspiring mooters gathered for the First BAC Quickfire Mooting 2025, held on 8th February 2025 at Brickfields Asia College (BAC) PJ Campus. This dynamic and fast-paced competition provided law students with a golden opportunity to sharpen their advocacy skills and experience the intensity of mooting in real-time.
A Race Against Time
The event, open exclusively to BAC students pursuing law degrees or the Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP), attracted numerous participants eager to test their legal prowess. Teams of two were assigned the roles of Appellants and Respondents, engaging in a battle of wit, logic and legal reasoning. Given the quickfire nature of the competition, participants had only 30 minutes to brainstorm and construct their arguments before presenting their cases.
A Mooting Experience Like No Other
The event unfolded in two engaging sessions. Session 1 ran from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by Session 2 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. After an intense series of arguments and rebuttals, participants and attendees enjoyed a networking session from 3:30 PM to 4:00 PM, providing a valuable platform for aspiring lawyers to connect with peers and professionals in the field.
Participants took on the challenging roles of legal advocates, with Appellants arguing for their case and Respondents defending their positions. Each side was given the opportunity to present their case, culminating in a high-stakes rebuttal round where teams had to think on their feet and counter their opponents' arguments effectively.
A Panel of Distinguished Judges
Three guest judges, experienced in the field of law, presided over the event, evaluating participants based on their legal reasoning, presentation skills and ability to respond persuasively under pressure. The competition saw a diverse mix of participants—some joining for the thrill of mooting, while others sought to gain valuable experience in legal advocacy.
An Opportunity to Learn and Grow
For many, the Quickfire Mooting event was a stepping stone towards mastering the art of advocacy. One participant joined simply for fun, while another saw it as an invaluable learning opportunity. Regardless of their motivation, all competitors walked away with enhanced legal skills and a deeper appreciation for the intricacies of mooting.
The First BAC Quickfire Mooting 2025 proved to be an exhilarating experience, offering participants a platform to challenge themselves, refine their legal arguments and engage in spirited debates. With the event's success, it is clear that mooting remains a cornerstone of legal education at BAC, inspiring the next generation of legal professionals. Until next time—let the moot continue!
