Tee Kar Weng's Academic Journey
From Curiosity to Courtroom Ambitions
Tee Kar Weng, a student at Brickfields Asia College, discovered his passion for law through a strong sense of justice and a fascination with how legal systems work. Despite finding math and science challenging, he realised that law was the perfect path for him; one that allowed him to channel his curiosity and talents into a field driven by reasoning and analysis rather than numbers. His journey at BAC has enabled him to align his interests with a career that truly resonates with his values and ambitions.
Graduating with First Class Honours from the University of Hertfordshire was a significant achievement for Kar Weng. He emphasised how important his final year was, which determined his overall score. Reflecting on his success, he said:
"I am truly thankful for this outcome and pleased that my hard work has been rewarded."
When asked about his support system, Kar Weng didn't hesitate to credit the support system at BAC for playing a crucial role in his academic journey. The accessibility of academic resources, such as the library and online databases and the strong sense of community among students, were invaluable to him.
Insights and Reflections on His Academic Journey
Kar Weng is hopeful that his amazing achievement will only boost his job prospects and provide the career opportunities that he has been waiting for all his years of studying. However, he views it as more than just a steppingstone.
The knowledge and skills he gained, particularly in critical thinking and research, have deepened his understanding of the law and will be instrumental in solving complex legal issues in his future career. He understands that the tools given to him through his entire academic journey is just the beginning of him exploring his deep curiosity in the legal system.
Though this achievement didn't come without its stressful moments and when asked how he dealt with it, Kar Weng said that he always tried to make time for family and friends, who were his biggest supporters. Regular visits to the park also helped him relax and recharge.
Internships, Career Path Shaping and Misconceptions of Law
It wasn't just classroom lectures and assignment work at home that got Kar Weng his great achievement. His internships were pivotal in shaping his career path. At Shearn Delamore & Co., he was grateful to gain hands-on experience in legal tasks, particularly in employment law, which locked in his interest in the field.
Additionally, his internship with the Judiciary in the Court of Appeal Malaysia allowed him to assist in court proceedings and legal research, which only pushed his goal of understanding the legal system further. It’s safe to say that he was thrilled to actively participate in legal proceedings in such a meaningful and hands-on way.
Kar Weng was also quick to point out the common misconception about studying law: that it merely involves reading and memorising cases. In reality, His academic journey proved that studying law is more than that.
It's also applying legal principles in real world issues that change the lives of those involved. It is what determines the functionality and limits of industries within a country, but most importantly it is the shield to protect everyone it encompasses.
Tee Kar Weng's journey is one that we, as an institution, are proud of. He showed the tenacity and dedication that all First Class BAC graduates have ingrained within them, and achieved something that only came from years of hard work.
Congratulations Tee Kar Weng. We look forward to seeing you thrive wherever you go!
