Celebrating Pongal at BAC

A Vibrant Showcase of Indian Tradition at BAC
The BAC Campus came alive with vibrant colours, rich traditions, and the spirit of community on January 22nd as students and staff gathered to celebrate the Indian harvest festival, Pongal. This event, which showcased the beauty of Indian culture, brought together people from all walks of life to honour the harvest season and celebrate the importance of teamwork and tradition.
A Traditional Start: Pongal Rice Preparation and Sugar Cane Decoration
The celebration began with the heart of the Pongal festival—the preparation of the Pongal rice. This special dish, made from newly harvested rice, was boiled in an earthen pot, symbolising prosperity and abundance. The process of boiling the rice was accompanied by the traditional decoration of sugar cane, adding a festive touch to the surroundings.
Engaging in Cultural Activities: A Hands-On Experience of Tradition
Traditional Flower Weaving
Participants crafted beautiful flower garlands from jasmine, learning about the significance of flowers in Indian festivals and the skill required to weave them.
Traditional Weaving of Thoran
Another exciting activity was the art of weaving green coconut fronds to create thorans, a traditional decoration in Indian homes during festivals
Tug of War : Teamwork and unity in little things
The event’s grand finale featured an exciting tug of war among the audience, where the participants used a weaved saree as a rope.
This lively game symbolised teamwork and unity, as everyone pulled together in good spirit and a happy mood.
A Celebration of Teamwork and Harmony
The Pongal celebration at BACPJ Campus was more than just an event—it was a demonstration of teamwork, unity, and the spirit of harmony. All the cultural activities, and every aspect of the day reflected the strength of collaboration between students and staff, making it a memorable occasion for everyone involved.
