BAC Law Society Visits
RDS Partnership

BAC Law Society has been taking a lot of initiative in showcasing the life of a lawyer outside of textbooks and case laws. The way they are doing so is with trips to places like the Parliament, Palace of Justice and many different law firms. This time, they had the opportunity to visit RDS Partnership, just two weeks after “Tax Talk 101“ with the same firm.

The visit started off with a briefing from the staff about the office, which then led directly into a tour of the building. Students got a chance to see the boardroom where partners would meet to discuss important firm issues as well as the library where all physical research and records from RDS Partnership are kept. Students learned that associates and interns could work in the library if they wished for a change of environment.

Once the tour was over, students proceeded to the partners' lounge where the networking session began. Students had a chance to speak to partners, associates, pupils and interns about their experience in the firm and what they have learned over their years in practice and in the workforce.

As the networking session began, the students were greeted by a welcoming speech from Mr. Saravana and Ms. Al Amirat who visited BAC during the Tax Talk event. They encouraged the students to ask the lawyers as much questions as they could to learn new things that could equip them for their future in practice. Their speech also invited the students to dig in to the food provided!

Many of the students really enjoyed the visit, from learning about the working life of a lawyer at RDS Partnership to learning about their struggles in law school. The lawyers flourishing in their current roles were an inspiration to the students. Here's what some of them had to say:

"My recent visit to RDS was an enriching experience. The process for the visit was incredibly smooth, making it easy to engage with the firm. I had the opportunity to build valuable connections, particularly with Austen, Al, and Saravana, who provided me with great insights. Mr. Austen was particularly helpful, offering advice on the steps to take if I wish to pursue a career with RDS. He emphasised the importance of making thoughtful decisions and gaining experience through internships to better understand the legal field. Additionally, the food was excellent, and the committees were very supportive and friendly, making the entire visit enjoyable," said Muhammad Nifail Anaqi.

"Chatting with the lawyers about how they made it into the firm was super insightful. Hearing their stories about law school struggles and the path to being a lawyer at RDS made me realise just how much dedication it takes to succeed in this field," said Nagano Kenji.

"I really enjoyed the visit to RDS. I think the most significant lesson that I took back that day would be to 'push through your law degree or whatever course you’re doing and achieve the big picture you’ve had since you were little.' I was given the golden opportunity of speaking to Mr. Saravana himself and when he quoted those words, it was a different kind of motivation as it came from a successful lawyer himself. Thank you BAC Law Society for organising this visit!" said Clarissa Raymond.

The visit was definitely a beneficial one for students as they got a chance to learn directly from those representing their future in law. If you are interested in what the BAC Law Society is doing and want to join in on these visits, you can click the button below or visit their Instagram.
