About University of Exeter

As part of a radical vision for the city, schools of Art and Science were founded in Exeter in 1851. Challenging opposition and driven by ambition from the start, these humble beginnings were the first steps towards establishing the University of Exeter.

The University of Exeter combines world class research with excellent student satisfaction at its campuses in Exeter and Cornwall. Formed in 1955, the University has 22,085 students from more than 130 different countries. Its success is built on a strong partnership with its students and a clear focus on high performance.

General Information

  • A member of the Russell Group of leading research-intensive universities.
  • Exeter was named The Times and The Sunday Times Sports University of the Year 2015-16 acknowledging the University as the best in the country in academic and athletic achievement across a wide range of sports.
  • It is also ranked amongst the world’s top 200 universities in the QS and Times Higher Education rankings.
  • The Times and the Sunday Times Good University Guide ranks Exeter in 12th position in the UK.

Interesting Facts

  • The Forum, a £50m student services building provides a centrepiece for the Streatham Campus and opens onto an attractive piazza.
  • It houses a purpose-built student services centre, 400-seat lecture theatre, a shop, bank and café.
