Dialogue Session for Jobseekers with Disabilities

PETALING JAYA, 26 February 2019 –Specialjobs.com.my, Malaysia’s first free online job portal for the special needs community (a by-product of Agensi Pekerjaan Jobsbac Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of BAC Education Group), and the Make It Right Movement (MIRM) conducted a dialogue session for jobseekers from the special needs community.

The session was held at Level 6 of BAC’s PJ campus which houses a brand new co-working space and state-of-the-art facilities for innovative and entrepreneurial collaborations. Brian Lariche, Head of Community Development of the Make It Right Movement (MIRM) moderated the interactive session which drew an impressive crowd ranging from parents of persons with disabilities (PWDs), NGOs for PWDs to Training Academies for PWDs.

Some of the useful tips shared with PWDs covered areas such as sourcing information about a particular type of job and setting realistic job goals, researching about an organization and their work practices, preparing job-seeking documents, ie job application forms, resume and other supporting documents such as references. Important interview tips were also shared during the session, namely, the ability to discuss any special arrangements required for employment and integral questions to ask a prospective employer.

Rachel Siew, community advocate of MIRM and author of Little Book, BIG Secrets as well as Zhariff Afandi, life coach and author of SOS: Surfing Out Stuff – A Book of Growth & Guidance were in attendance to share their job seeking experiences with fellow participants.
